After almost 1 year of idle time, things suddenly are moving at warp speed. Less than 4 weeks ago Kurt and I were still pondering whether we wanted to stay in Midtown Houston or move somewhere to the outskirts of the city. Well we won’t have to worry about a local move any further. We are packing up the goods and moving to Europe. Home for me, a new continent to explore for Kurt.

Most of the  arrangements are completed and we will be traveling to our new home town London, UK the first week of November. In the meanwhile, I will be doing my internship here in the US while Kurt orchestrates our relocation. It is certainly a bitter sweet situation because we are leaving a group of great friends and a wonderful family behind. On the other hand, we hope that our stay in the UK will allow some of our friends and family to explore new horizons and visit us.

Not all of this is about the move, some of you may know that we had our wedding planned (since last year) in the Caribbean where our immediate family and close friends would be joining us. With the sudden turmoil, we needed to made the hard decision to postpone the trip and are instead getting married here in Houston this upcoming week-end. The Caribbean ceremony, now pushed to December, will be symbolic but not less exiting!!

Last week we decided to go on a road trip and visit the family in Livonia, MI and Bromont, QC. It was a long drive but worth it. We linked the practical to the fun and dropped off our beloved Princess Sofie who is not ready to make to big move to the UK due to quarantine issues. She got all her shots but needs to wait 6 months from her shot and bloodwork dates before she can enter. From Livonia we drove to Bromont to visit with my parents and my daughter Ginnie where we delivered my car to her. My baby was quite happy with her new wheels!

Kurt and I started to familiarize ourselves with our new destination and have been looking for a home or [flat]. Brits refer to what we call an apartment a [flat]. So we are getting a crash course in british vs American terminology and linguistic nuances. Luckey, we will have a relocation specialist to help us navigate through all the idiosyncracies that come with a long distance move.

In the meanwhile, we are enjoying the final days of summer and  spending time with family and friends…. last but not least, Sunday is our wedding day so – we need to prep for that one too.

I’d say  the expression “Everything happens for a reason” is holding true thus far.
